Mehidy attains career-best ODI ranking
Bangladesh off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz has attained career-best rankings in the ICC ODI rankings for bowlers following an impressive showing in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against the West Indies. This is also the first time that Mehidy broke into the top-ten of the ICC ODI bowling rankings.
The latest ICC rankings updated by the cricket's global governing body on Wednesday show that Mehidy is ranked fourth with a rating point of 694. Despite starting the Windies series with below-par performance in the first ODI, Mehidy ended up as the highest wicket-taker of the series, scalping seven wickets at an average of 10.28 in three matches. And that has seen him make a leap of nine places in the list.
Mehidy, however, is not the only Bangladeshi in the top-ten as left-arm paceman Mustafizur Rahman is eighth on the list with 658 rating points. Mustafizur, who did not fail to give the Tigers a breakthrough in any of the three ODIs against the Windies and ended the series with six scalps at an average of 9.83, moved 11 places up the ladder.
This, of course, is not Mustafizur's career-best ranking. The cutter master was ranked fifth in December, 2018.
Premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who made his return to Bangladesh colors following a year-long ban imposed by the ICC in 2019, moved up 15 places to 13th in the list. He took six wickets at an average of 8.33 and an economy of 2.25 in three matches against the Windies.
There were no changes in the top three of the ODI bowling rankings with New Zealand's Trent Boult, Afghanistan's Mujeeb Ur Rahman and India's Jasprit Bumrah at one, two and three respectively.
There has been no change in the top-ten ODI batting rankings either with India skipper Virat Kohli remaining at the top with 870 rating points. Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim have both moved a place to 22nd and 15th on the list respectively.
