7 arrested for running job scam in Dhaka’s Uttar Khan: Rab

Rapid Action Battalion has arrested seven persons for running a racket that duped people by offering them jobs and swindled money from more than 700 job seekers in the last six months.

A team of Rab-1 conducted a raid yesterday at the office of "Sinthiya Security Service Limited" in Dhaka's Uttar Khan area that did not have any operations and existed in name alone, Abdullah Al Momen, commanding officer of Rab-1 told a press conference today.

The arrestees are the company's MD Shamsunnahar Maya, General Manager Jewel Mia, Deputy GM Kamruzzaman, Receptionist Farhana Yeasmin, and marketing officers Mehedi Hasan, Al Mamun and Tajbir Hasan.

Rab recovered five fake appointment letters and 80 resumes of job seekers from the office.

The gang used to publish advertisements for the post of bodyguards, house managers, caretakers, security supervisors and security guards, and took Tk 12,500 each -- as security deposit and cost for ID cards and training -- after interviews, Momen said.

He said the gang would promise the victims to provide jobs in different institutions with a monthly salary of Tk 10,000-Tk 15,000. But later, the fraudsters used to tell them to find new job seekers and based on the new job seekers' deposits they would get paid.

They used to make excuses for not returning any money when the victims wanted their money back, said the Rab official.
