»The surah that mentions the moment in which God first revealed the Quran, calling it The Ordainment. It is named after the phrase “the night of ordainment” (laylay al-qadr), mentioned in

. The surah celebrates the night when the first revelation of the Quran was sent down.«
The surah is also known as: Determination, Honour, Power, The Glory, The Night of Empowering Decree, The Night of Glory, The Night of Power.

بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ

Transliteration: bi-smi llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīmⁱ

Translation: In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

إِنّا أَنزَلناهُ في لَيلَةِ القَدرِ

Transliteration

ʾinnā ʾanzalnāhu fī laylati l-qadrⁱ

Translation

Indeed We sent it¹ down on the Night of Ordainment.

وَما أَدراكَ ما لَيلَةُ القَدرِ

Transliteration

wa-mā ʾadrāka mā laylatu l-qadrⁱ

Translation

What will show you what is the Night of Ordainment?

لَيلَةُ القَدرِ خَيرٌ مِن أَلفِ شَهرٍ

Transliteration

laylatu l-qadri khayrun min ʾalfi shahrⁱⁿ

Translation

The Night of Ordainment is better than a thousand months.

تَنَزَّلُ المَلائِكَةُ وَالرّوحُ فيها بِإِذنِ رَبِّهِم مِن كُلِّ أَمرٍ

Transliteration

tanazzalu l-malāʾikatu wa-r-rūḥu fīhā bi-ʾidhni rabbihim min kulli ʾamrⁱⁿ

Translation

In it the angels and the Spirit descend, by the leave of their Lord, with every command.

سَلامٌ هِيَ حَتّىٰ مَطلَعِ الفَجرِ

Transliteration

salāmun hiya ḥattā maṭlaʿi l-fajrⁱ

Translation

It is peaceful until the rising of the dawn.
