The surah is an address to the Prophet Muḥammad, to reassure him, when
he had not received revelation for some time, that his Lord had not
forsaken him.«

بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ
1
وَالضُّحىٰ
Transliteration
wa-ḍ-ḍuḥā
Translation
By the morning brightness,
2
وَاللَّيلِ إِذا سَجىٰ
Transliteration
wa-l-layli ʾidhā sajā
Translation
by the night when it is calm!
3
ما وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَما قَلىٰ
Transliteration
mā waddaʿaka rabbuka wa-mā qalā
Translation
Your Lord has neither forsaken you nor is He displeased with you,
4
وَلَلآخِرَةُ خَيرٌ لَكَ مِنَ الأولىٰ
Transliteration
wa-la-l-ʾākhiratu khayrun laka mina l-ʾūlā
Translation
and the Hereafter shall be better for you than the world.
5
وَلَسَوفَ يُعطيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرضىٰ
Transliteration
wa-la-sawfa yuʿṭīka rabbuka fa-tarḍā
Translation
Soon your Lord will give you [that with which] you will be pleased.
6
أَلَم يَجِدكَ يَتيمًا فَآوىٰ
Transliteration
ʾa-lam yajidka yatīman fa-ʾāwā
Translation
Did He not find you an orphan, and shelter you?
7
وَوَجَدَكَ ضالًّا فَهَدىٰ
Transliteration
wa-wajadaka ḍāllan fa-hadā
Translation
Did He not find you astray, and guide you?
8
وَوَجَدَكَ عائِلًا فَأَغنىٰ
Transliteration
wa-wajadaka ʿāʾilan fa-ʾaghnā
Translation
Did He not find you needy, and enrich you?
9
فَأَمَّا اليَتيمَ فَلا تَقهَر
Transliteration
fa-ʾammā l-yatīma fa-lā taqhar
Translation
So, as for the orphan, do not oppress him;
10
وَأَمَّا السّائِلَ فَلا تَنهَر
Transliteration
wa-ʾammā s-sāʾila fa-lā tanhar
Translation
and as for the beggar, do not chide him;
11
وَأَمّا بِنِعمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّث
Transliteration
wa-ʾammā bi-niʿmati rabbika fa-ḥaddith
Translation
and as for your Lord’s blessing, proclaim it!
