Two ‘Rohingya drug traders’ killed in Bandarban ‘gunfight’
Two suspected Rohingya drug traders were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along Tumbru border of Naikkhongchhari upazila of Bandarban early Sunday. The deceased were identified as Yasin, 30, and Hossain Ali, 20, who were residing in Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar district.
Commanding Officer of BGB-34 Battalion Lt Col Ali Haidar Azad Ahmed said a team of the paramilitary force during regular patrolling found a group of people who were dealing with drugs in the Chairman Bridge area around 5:30am. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminals fired at the BGB men, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.
At one stage, Yasin and Hossain were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, the BGB official said, adding that their cohorts, however, managed to flee.
